Summly for Android – the wake

by on Mar.25, 2013, under Cycle Hire Widget

Summly for Android version 1.0 was (and at the time of writing still is) sitting in the Google Play Store publisher view in pending state, the only thing remaining was to hit publish. Dozens of people in the beta programme had helped fix dozens of bugs. It was a truly excellent app, better than the iPhone version in every way.

But it looks like with the Yahoo acquisition it will now never see the light of day. We’d known about this for a few weeks and were dreading this outcome. We’d put everything we could into making this the best app it could possibly be.

Google loved it and had given us loads of help improving it and Androidifying it, indeed later today there’s an Android special on news apps, we’d been invited to participate in this and to have it inducted into the Android Hall Of Fame.

But that’s now all gone. Acquihires, eh? Still, good luck Nick D’Aloisio. You’re a smart kid.

Summly public beta programme opens soon

by on Feb.22, 2013, under Android, Portfolio, Summly, Technologies

For the past few months Kenton and Reuben have been knuckling down with Summly to develop their upcoming Android app. We think it’s an absolute scorcher, and we hope you do too. It’s been in private beta for a while, and the guys at Summly are very nearly ready to go into public beta with it, before a full public launch sometime thereafter. If you’d like to be included in the Summly public beta programme, send an email to hello@summly.com – tell them we sent you, and you might even get early access ;)

Announcing Little Fluffy Location Library for Android

by on Apr.24, 2012, under Little Fluffy Location Library, Open source

Sorry we’ve been quiet – we’ve been snowed under! As part of that, we’ve been creating an app that needed background location updates without wrecking users’ batteries. We were so pleased with the result, we think others should be able to use it too, so we took the guts of it and made a simple library that anyone can use in their Android apps. And it’s open source so you can change the code as much as you like. And it’s free!

Check it out on Google Code here: Little Fluffy Location Library for Android

LFT team’s app gets featured globally on Android Market

by on Jun.20, 2011, under Cycle Hire Widget

For the last six months the Little Fluffy Toys team has been rewriting Touchnote’s Android app. This weekend, it was selected by Google to be featured globally on Android Market. Only 30 of the 250,000 apps on Market are awarded this accolade.

Whilst our Cycle Hire Widget was previously featured in the UK version of Android Market, this is the first time an app we have worked on has been featured globally, and we’re delighted that the app has been recognised. We wish Touchnote every success with it.

We have finished our work at Touchnote and are shortly available for consultancy work. Please email info@littlefluffytoys.mobi for more information.

BBC Micro emulator for Android coming soon

by on Jun.15, 2011, under Android, Retro

We cut our teeth on the BBC Micro in the 80s – you can read more about that here. So when the penny dropped that our favourite BBC Micro emulator is open-source, we got rather excited about the thought of porting it to Android. And Reuben got to work.

And it’s early days, but today we reached a huge milestone – booting up and entering Hello World on a BBC Micro on Android. And now we’ve even got it running Chuckie Egg and Frak.

This isn’t a mockup – everything you see is from a Nexus S, and the text was entered on the Nexus S’s touchscreen. Still some time away from release, but just for a moment imagine playing Elite on a Honeycomb tablet using accelerometers as a joystick. Oooooooooooooh yes…..
